The project explores the contrast between the mass and transparency with thick, insulated concrete walls that form the major portions of the street facade. The walls are layered and modulated to provide carefully formulated views from rooms facing the west, adding depth and shadow to the facade, and orchestrate the sequence of entry through the courtyard to the front door.

After entering the transparency of the east side of the house is revealed. The reflecting pool on the eastern edge of the terrace eliminates the need for a handrail and visually merges with the waters of Lake Washington 80 ‘below. Windows from floor to ceiling steel framed walls and doors form the east, while cast in place concrete chimneys anchor the ends of the main rooms.
The town reflects its construction program with a master volume box in the vital areas of the Great Room, kitchen and library. The sleeping wing, separated by a glass walled bridge, is oriented east-west on the south bank of the site. The garage, with apartments above, extends west along the northern edge of the courts to form input. Concrete, steel, wood and stone make up the palette of material contained. The green roof reduces stormwater runoff, while the geothermal heating system reduces the consumption of fossil fuels.
